I think that education is really important, especially reading. Cambodian’s don’t read the book a lot because of their family economic so they don’t have money to buy the book for their kids to read so their kid has a hard time in reading and improving knowledge. So the purpose of making this local library is to improve Cambodian kid’s knowledge, reading, but it also tests about their integrity when they borrow the book to home, are they going to bring it back or not? Our group has created this local library to put in Cambodia but now we just put it around Liger community and at our hometown. So on we put this local library about 8 libraries in our community, but the next goal we will put the library boxes around Cambodia up to 30 library boxes.
Animal Guide
This exploration is call animal guide in this groups there are 13 members in this project. We are trying to help protect wild animals in Cambodia from hunting, lost habitats and to educate Cambodian people to understand how important animals is. We are making a book that will disturbed to all around primary school in Cambodia also to the world. In our book there are 87 species and 7 habitats. I am researched around 5 species and it is the first time for me to make a book and doing research. It’s hard for me to find the information about the animal in Cambodia but it is a great experience for me to learn and understand about it. After we collect all the information from internet and going field trips to research more information from expert or clarify the information. I turned the note that I have been research and turned it into the sentence. Some places that we go to research about our species and to get more information like Prek Toal, ACCB, Phnom Ta Mao zoo and some more places in Phnom Penh. We are not just research but we want to see and understand the real situation of the animal especially their behavior and how it look like. It’s took us almost one year to create this amazing book sometimes we are working extra time to get the final book. What I like about this exploration are that I can know more information about the animal in Cambodia but it also helping change Cambodia by making the Wildlife of Cambodia book.
The most Powerful Tool to Convince People
The 2018-2019 school was a great journey to be part of the statistic math class. This is obviously a college-level source that I took. It was a great experience to learn the course because unlike other math subjects, the statistic is more advanced in terms of data analyzing and reading comprehension. The statistic course had changed my way of thinking to be more aware when interpreting data from the outside sources. Stats are very powerful and it is a key technique to convince people to believe in you. We’ve been using the AP stats book and as well KhanAcadmey as a resource to practice and drill down each unit. The bellow attachments are the main unit that I had completed in KhanAcademy.
Literacy is Everywhere
In the last round of the literacy class, it was a very unique style of learning literacy skills. Our facilitator wants to try out this new way of learning because she believes that whatever project we do in Liger is very connected to the literacy skills. In our round-five class, we were required to be self-awareness to plan our own task every single day. It was I cool experience to be part of the class because these skills are very crucial to our life in the future work. I love this style of learning because it enhances the students to be more independent and prioritize what they want to work on. As a result, I was able to get more stuff done and I hope to continue this unique way of learning literacy.
Overcome College-Level Course
This school year I challenged myself to take a college-level course to study Ap Macroeconomics. Over the course of the school year, I had completed the whole course and took the test in May. It was a great experience to be apart of the class because I was able to have a better understanding of the current event of how the country works nationally and internationally in the economy. In addition, I get to explore what it was like to study a college-level course; it wasn’t that easy, it required a lot of hard works and practices to understand the materials. But overall, it was a great opportunity to take this challenge beyond my level and tried to drill down a challenge to overcome it.
Khmer Literature and Culture Festival
On Friday, May 24, 2019, Liger Leadership Academy had hosted the Khmer Literature and Culture Festival for a day long to share what we had learned and inspired others to preserve Khmer cultures and language. My main role was to invite the speakers to address on three topics such as “Raising Awareness about Cambodian Culture, Khmer Literature Condition in Modern Days, and How to Write Khmer Poem and Short Story?” My opinion after the day was that the speaker session ran very smoothly. As the host of the private session, I noticed that close to one-hundred students showed up in the panel discussion. I was very proud to be part of the event and able to link the speaker to share their experiences and knowledge with the other students.
សំបុត្រលិខិតអញ្ជើញ (Invitation Letter)
My role in the Khmer Literature and Culture Festival was to organize the speaker sessions. In order to accomplish that, I needed to invite the speakers from outside of Liger to discuss and address the topics. Unlike a normal invitation letter, I was required to write a formal one to the speakers to show respect and follow our culture. The attachment below was one of my invitation letter samples.
How does Smog Affect Brain Development?
In our chemistry class, I had a project to design my own question and research project on smog. So after I did a small research, I want to do something about the impact of smog on human health so I decided to do further research about the effect on human brain development. I found some interesting study that has been done in the west. One of the studies concluded that there was a correlation of exposing to a high fine particle could decline a person cognitive performance.
The Rent Collector Art Piece Reflection
In my literacy class, I was assigned to read a book called “The Rent Collector”. The book was very inspiring, it is a true story about a family who lives in the landfill and fights against the obstacles every single time to survive. Their main source of income was from collecting trash but with an opportunity to access to literature, it had changed their life forever. This made me realized that literature is everywhere, with enough determination and persistence the impossible will be possible.
An inspiring art piece of how I felt after reading “The Rent Collection.”
World Poetry Day
On Thursday, March 21 it was the World Poetry Day, so my literacy essential class I was performing a short poem to my classmates. I was so proud to be a part of the day and most importantly, it had opened me to a window to express my feeling and reflect myself through the writing about myself in this school year. I think this was one of my favorite poems so far that I wrote and it was inspired by my action this year to get out and engage more with my world.
Let Fight to Shine Your Light
by Mengthong Long
This is your world, it belongs to you,
To you, to you, and to you all.
You own it! You were born with it! You commit to it!
This place is the reason why you are here.
So why not, taking responsibility to engage with your world.
Be yourself, believe in yourself, and go with your mind.
Let shine your light out there, show your truthfulness of who you are,
Show of what you capable of.
Let’s go out there to explore your own world.
No pain, no gain
No failures, no success
Actually, there is no such thing as failures
Because true failures is a lesson.
Dip Dip Boom Boom, the heart is beating, the sound of anxious.
We all have fear, we all used to undergo an uncomfortable situation.
But remember this:
Don’t let it build a cage around you.
Don’t let it hold your back
If you stuck, if I stuck and if we all stuck, we all are not growing.
We’re being locked in this boundary, in the darkness full of fear and doubt.
Fear is the mirror to reflect failure.
So let stop the FEAR to define you.
Let break the boundary; Let shine the life that you want to be.
Let shine your light!
Let shine your light!
Let shine your light!
If not here, where? If not now, when? If not you, who?
Have a taste of the flavor now or never.
Bravery is the only key to success!
So let shine your light right now!
Show this world of who you are.
Note: So please repeat these phrases after me.
I’m not scared!
I’m not scared!
We all not scared!
I can do it, we all can do it.
I’m gonna shine my light!
I’m gonna do whatever it takes to be fearless and to be who I am.
