Carbon in Cambodia

This year I involved in the exploration called Carbon in Cambodia. In this exploration, we tried to calculate our school carbon footprint and tried to find out whether Liger is neutral or not. In our class, we divided into three small teams such as International Polar Bears, International Carbon Footprints, and Green School. International Polar Bears was a team who participated in a polar bear competition where we tried to come up with the solutions to help to reduce the carbon emission. International Carbon Footprints was a team that worked on calculating the student’s emission. Green School was a team who worked on calculating the carbon emissions in Liger. So we tried to calculate the carbon that we released every year and compare it to the tree that absorbs that carbon. As a result, in order to make Liger as a neutral school, we need to plant about 6,000 more trees to balance with our carbon emissions. What I love about this exploration was that we were independent and at the end of the week the teams came together to educate each other about our progress. I was involved in the International Polar Bears project, we came up with the idea of reducing the food waste in our campus. So we set up a three weeks experiment where we calculate the food waste and turned it into a carbon emission.

Coding Game

This year at Liger I have a lot of coding classes. In the last round of Liger school year, I had participated in the economic game. Before I join this exploration team I need to take a brain test that really complicated and I need to get a curtain of the score in order to join the coding class. Finally, I can make it happen, so I’m one of the Liger coding members out of 16 students that also a team in the exploration. Before we actually have the exploration the Liger coding team had an expertise in coding, so we Skype with our mentor. He taught us about Github command, so then when we have an exploration we can use the Github website to share our code and interact with other teams. In the exploration, we divided into four teams which are user interface, tutorial, data, and engine team. In the tutorial team, we have four members and I’m one of them. Basically, the tutorial team is trying to create the tutorial to teach other people that learn to use the economic game. First, Michal shows us about the Javascript language and we use the Codecademy.com as our learning resource for Javascript. We learned the basic stuff like variable, function, loop and so on. For our game, we use four languages and my difficulty was learning about Javascript. I have fun with my team and the whole group and I learned a lot from the coding exploration. Even though we didn’t finish the game but we tried our best to accomplish what we can do.

Chili Sauce Business

Every students in Liger are learning about Entrepreneurship it’s a real research and real business. In my exploration we divided into 4 groups. My group is the Outreach team and the other three groups are product development, label team, Legal and budget team. My group is the third exploration group. The previous group that already take the entrepreneurship class they explain briefly to my group at the sharation time about the Chili sauce business and some of the lessons. When we start the entrepreneurship exploration we already have a strong foundation about entrepreneurship and chili sauce business. In my Outreach team we worked on business plan, advertising, pitching and finding investor. For business plan my group need to work really hard and communicate with other group to get the information in order to prepare the business plan. It’s my first entrepreneurship business class, so everything is new for me I get a lot of experience from this class especially how to create a business. It’s way harder then what I expect the business should look like. When I learned in this class I notice that when we want to create a business we need to think a lot not only the budget but the first initial important thing is planing.

Agriculture

In Cambodia agriculture is one of the important part for the economic especially rice. We want to lean more about different type of agriculture not only the rice but other vegetables, fruits and more. We plan out the tirp to Bantanbang and Phour Sat to learn and explore more about agriculture.  We went and worked with Srer Khmer organization that they help the farmer to produce more yield, the technique and use the right amount of chemical. Srer Khmer usually teach the community about rice, so after listen to their presentation we went with them to see some of the rice fields. While we observe the rice field and other farm we asked them some questions, it helps us to use their advice to actually do it in Liger.

Human of Cambodia

We are the Humans of Cambodia, a group of nine students. Our purpose is to share with people around the world about Cambodian culture and Cambodian personal story. Also, we want to attract people’s minds to read about the Cambodian people’s daily lives. In the first three weeks we learn about how to be a good photographer and a good interviewer. When we go to interview people we ask them for permission to interview and taking photos to put on our blog. We should not go behind and ask for permission because that person will feel shock, so he or she won’t let us interview. Our goal, we want that person to feel comfortable and think like we are their friend, so it is easy for us to get more interesting information. Some common questions that we ask like: What is the happiest time in your life? What is your saddest time in your life? What you like about this country? and What is your biggest challenge?.

When we come back from an interview we listen to the audio and write down the interesting part what that person said and choose the best photo. My row is a blog designer and organizer. Normally when someone finished transcript caption, check the grammar and choose the right photo I will put that into Humans of Cambodia blog.

Creative Writing

A million years ago there was a female seahorse named Rapunzel. She was 68 years old. She was swimming in a deep ocean at the bright morning to find the food to eat like a normal day. The ocean was really bright and colorful and the beautiful colors glowed from the coral reef. When Rapunzel came out she saw a school of fish around there that made the ocean shine brightly. She saw many things like coral reefs, starfishes and sponges. But one day, when she came to find food like a normal day, along the way it seemed like there were no more organisms left in the ocean. She tried and tried to find food all day long but there was a scarcity of food. Even the small shrimp that were the main food for her were also gone. She thought in her mind and wondered what had happened to this ocean. Then she shouted out loud to the ocean: “why are there no more organisms left in here?” She shouted 2-3 times, then she stopped. She went to sleep in a cave with a sad face. When Rapunzel woke up, she swam to the surface of the ocean. Then she felt something moving nearby her and a gigantic dinosaur (which was a T-rex) popped up from the ocean with a loud screaming sound. When Rapunzel saw the T-rex, she stared at the dinosaur with a shocked emotion for a moment. She quickly swam to the cave that was under the ocean. Luckily that dinosaur didn’t see her, so she could escape from the T-rex easily. Now Rapunzel was really hungry because she hadn’t had food to eat for two days already. After a few hours, Rapunzel came out from the cave and went to find food with a careful move. She found a little shrimp stuck in a small hole and she picked it up and ate it quickly. Rapunzel went back to the cave and had a sleep; she dreamed about the T-rex again, and it was trying to catch her to eat. Rapunzel tried and tried to run away from the T-rex and finally she made it. She started to look around  her, but everything was just dark and quiet. Suddenly that T-rex just came up behind her and slowly got ready to eat her. She faced backwards and shouted loudly, then she woke up with a startled emotion. Rapunzel felt really scared, but she tried to calm down and swam to the surface of the ocean. ”Today the sky is really bright and there is a great smell of flowers around here that just bloomed last night,” she said. Immediately the ocean just shook stronger and stronger and the whole ocean started to spin like a tsunami disaster. The T-rex also got pulled down into that hole with Rapunzel. Then a bright light shone from the ocean and the ocean exploded with a strange loud song. Finally the T-rex and Rapunzel transformed to the strange animal that had never existed on Earth before. It had Rapunzel’s body and the head of the T-rex. People called this strange animal Searex and it never died of  natural causes, only if someone got the Gnohtgnem stone from Searex’s heart.

Leadership

In leadership we had learned and has some research about electricity we learn that the electricity that it help the people in Cambodia also it very dangerous to people mostly the kids because the kids like to play with iron. When they put that stuff with electricity it will shock them also the water can not be with electricity too. After we had understood the electricity we make a lesson to teach the student at the rural area. We had to trip to Ta keo to teach the student at Green Umbrella and we get some experience to teach the kid about this electricity problem. Also we went to Kampot to teach the student too. In this class we focus on electricity but we had a trip to some province to teach them because we want to get experiment with how to be the leader. Leadership if represent to the people that are the leader so we can understand how hard it is to be the leader. Electricity is one of the biggest problem that Cambodia facing with so we decide to teach the kid about electricity and share some experiment with them. Teaching is not just giving knowledge but it also help us to become and strongly at leadership. leadership teaching

VIP Master Plan

→ Blender

In VIP Master Plan we had been make a 3D model that use blender to make an 3D building and print it in the 3D printer. On Monday to Thursday at 12:45pm to 2pm it is the time to learned Blender after that is VIP Master Plan Exploration. Blender is a free software that use to design animation 3D objects such as building, cup, vase, robot and so on. In the beginning of the Blender class out teacher tell us to install the Blender program and the version that I use is 2.75. After everyone have Blender installing we started to learned the basic of blender like making the table, cup, chair and small house.

→ 3D Model

In the last seven weeks we have been working on this VIP room. Do you know what is it for? Let me tell you. This project is called Liger model that show the 3D map of Liger campus. All the building that we have on this model were made in Blender. Blender is the free software that help to design 3D objects and animation.

So here is the example of the design that we made when we learn the basic of blender, like 3D cup, table, chair, and simple house. After learning the basic of Blender for a few weeks we started to design the buildings in Liger. I have made new senior campus and STEAM, which stand for SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY ENGINEERING ART and MATH. The difficult thing about designing  STEAM model is the roof because it’s kind of mixed shape that meet each other.

On every building on the board, there is a number label on it. The number represent the building on the key.

TV Broadcasting

In the TV Broadcasting group we learned about how to be a good emcee, film, and share the jobs. We divided into four jobs such as producer, research , editor, cameraman, and emcee. A producer has to make a script for emcee. The producer is the one that control all the job because producer tell what to do and check the information that we have . Also they need to make a storyboard and tell the cameraman what plot they want for the video. The research is the one that find the information to make the video and it is a big job because we need to have the good information. After all of this, they have to sit with the editor to tell what we want the video look like. A editor also has a hard work to do. They have to make sure that the video is right and what they want. A cameraman has to go to take a video with the producer. Before the emcee talks in the real show they have to understand what the script  about. In our class we made one documentary about Liger. Before we made a documentary we took some trips to some TV stations and met with the producer. We went to the CTN channel station and Apsara channel station. We got a lot of experience from the emcee and the producer. It helped us a lot when we made our documentary.

In this I had learn 7 steps that we can make the video:

  1. Equipment or Material
  2. Topic
  3. Planning

– Treatment

– Story board

  1. Research
  2. List of interview or schedule
  3. Start shooting or start filming

– Wide shot

– Mid shot

– Close up

– Pen(Move from left to right or right to left)

– Tilt (Move from up to down or to down to up)

– Follow shot

– Zoom shot

  1. Editing

– Soundtrack

– Graphic

– Effect

I learning about storyboard if we want to make a video we need to have a storyboard and in storyboard we need to draw something about the story or write to make more easy. Also if we forget we can look on the storyboard.

1.close up

2.mid shoot

3.wid shoot

4.follow shoot

Future Career

In Exploration round five we learned about Future Careers. We learned about how jobs will help Cambodia in the future. On the first day, we did personal profiles. We had to include our name, our strengths, our favorite things and our goal. We did that because we wanted everyone to know us when they came to our school. We also had a trip to SGFE (Sustainable Green Fuel Enterprise). It is the place where they make charcoal out of coconut shells. It really helps Cambodia because they take the waste pickers to work in there so that they have a good job and they can get money for their children to go to school. Also, they help the environment by recycling things. The next thing we did was the research project. We researched about the global problems. We got to choose our own topics. The topics were about Mekong River, chemicals in the food, poverty, nuclear energy, dengue fever and etc. Then, we went to job shadow. It means we are the shadow of the worker. We interviewed them about how they are working. Everyone got to go to two workplaces. The places that we went to are Northbridge International School, Plantation hotel, Small Word, Osja studio, A.N.D and more.
